Nianfors is a small village located deep in the Swedish countryside apporximately 300km
North of the capital city of Stockholm, near to the east coast.
Sweeping valleys and crystal lakes provide habitat to a small community and a wide range
of wildlife in this breathtakingly beautiful location famous for fishing, hunting, wild berries
and funghi.
The people in Nianfors have always maintained great respect for the environment
and have taken great care not to abuse the wide variety of foods available
from the wild larder there.
Recently planning to test drill for Uranium was granted to a company
called ‘Drillcom’.
This planning permission allows Drillcom to drill deep into the ‘Majsaberget’,
a mountain that sweeps down to the Finnsjon lake, a place of immense beauty
and also a provider of much of the fish consumed by the small population
that make up the community of Nianfors.
This decision to test drill for Uranium has horrified the local community
of Nianfors and many of the neighbouring towns and villages that go to
make up the Helsingland region.
So much so that they have organised an action committee to defend
their environment from certain pollution that will come about if
the test drilling goes ahead.
We are appealling for your support, you can help in many ways,
first by singing our petition (you could also leave a personal comment
in our guestbook if you like - on the swedish site).
If you live in a neighbouring town or village please attend our demonstations
(To be announced at this site!) everyone is welcome, we need as many people
as we can find to form a blockade and prevent this distruction of the planet
from going ahead.
There are other options to consider when it comes to power, we can use more environmentally friendly options, such as wind turbine power, hydro, solar etc.
We don’t need Nuclear power – we don’t need this destruction!!
This is an opportunity for the people of Sweden and beyond to say
- ‘NO to Nuclear Power!’
-‘NO To Nuclear weapons!´(Both are inextricably linked!).
